About the Academic Plagiarism Checker

This checker runs entirely in your browser, so an unpublished manuscript, a draft grant application or a confidential review never has to be uploaded to a third-party service. That matters for academic work specifically, because most commercial plagiarism services work by retaining the text you submit, and some of them reuse it.

It performs several complementary checks on a document: similarity and repetition analysis for copied or duplicated passages, AI-generated content indicators, citation problems such as placeholder or unmatched references, and grammar and style issues that reviewers commonly flag. Each produces specific, actionable findings rather than a single opaque score.

Results are designed to support your own judgement, not to replace it. No automated check, including commercial ones, can give a defensible verdict on originality, and a similarity percentage is not a measure of misconduct. Use the findings to find passages that need rewriting and citations that need fixing, then read the document again yourself.

What this tool does

Similarity and repetition analysis

Surface passages that overlap other text within the document or closely match your own earlier writing, which is the most common cause of an unwelcome originality report.

AI-content indicators

Flag sentence-level stylistic patterns statistically associated with machine-generated text, so you can review and rewrite where it matters. Indicative only, never a verdict.

Citation checking

Identify placeholder citations, references that are never cited in the body, and year or author inconsistencies that reviewers reliably mark as a weakness.

Grammar and style review

Catch the mechanical problems that cost marks: agreement errors, inconsistent terminology, passive constructions and formatting that varies within a document.

Exportable report

Download a shareable HTML report or print to PDF, so a check can be attached to a supervisor or internal review process.

Frequently asked questions

Is my manuscript uploaded anywhere?

No. Every check runs locally in your browser, so the text is never transmitted or stored. This is the main reason to use this instead of a commercial service for unpublished work.

How reliable is the AI-content detection?

Treat it as a prompt to review, not a conclusion. No detector is accurate enough to accuse anyone, and paraphrasing, formal register and non-native English writing all produce false positives. It is a signal about style, not evidence about authorship.

Is a high similarity score plagiarism?

Not necessarily. Legitimate reasons include a standard method description, a quoted passage, an extended quotation from a source you have cited properly, or overlap with your own previous paper. What matters is whether the overlap is attributed where it needs to be.

Can I use this on a document I did not write?

Yes, and it is often most useful that way. Reviewing a co-author's draft for repetition, unresolved citations and grammar is a concrete way to improve a paper before it goes to reviewers.

How long can a document be?

There is a practical limit set by your device memory, since the document is processed in the browser. Full chapter-length or longer manuscripts work on a modern laptop. For a very large document, check it in sections.

Will this satisfy my institution's mandatory similarity check?

Almost certainly not, because most institutions require a specific vendor such as Turnitin, iThenticate or a local service integrated with their submission system. Use this to self-check and improve a draft before you run the official check.
